Day Trip to the Majestic Rainbow Mountain

Our extraordinary adventure commences between 4:00 to 4:30 am, as we whisk you away from your accommodation in our private transport for a comfortable 3-hour journey towards the Southern Valley of Cusco.

Throughout the expedition, you’ll be treated to scenic vistas of charming Andean towns, agricultural terraces, fertile valleys, and rolling mountains. Along the route, we’ll pause to observe lively herds of llamas and alpacas, providing entertainment as you enjoy a delightful continental breakfast for about 30 minutes—a nourishing meal to kick-start your hike.

Our route continues until we reach the hike’s starting point at 4,630 meters (15,190 feet) above sea level. From here, we’ll embark on a meandering trail amidst the Andean mountains, tracing the course of a picturesque stream. As you ascend, the awe-inspiring Ausangate Mountain (6,372 meters / 20,905 feet) will gradually come into view. Take a moment to contemplate why this mountain holds the status of a living deity among the Andean people.

This remote region is home to many inhabitants who diligently work the land. You’ll be captivated by their traditional attire, lovingly crafted and passed down through generations, showcasing their artistic textile talents. It’s a testament to the preservation of ancient culture in rural Peru, untouched by the influence of the Western world. Your knowledgeable guide will provide insights into the significance of various garments, and if you’re interested, you can request a lesson in Quechua, the native language spoken by many in the area since Inca times.

After approximately an hour and a half of trekking, we’ll arrive at the mesmerizing Rainbow Mountain of Cusco, standing at 5,100 meters (16,732 feet) above sea level. Take your time to marvel at the astonishing beauty of this remarkable natural wonder and experience the excitement of witnessing such a unique geological formation. Spend some time exploring the surrounding area while your guide shares the various theories about the mountain’s origin, making it seem like it’s been plucked from a vibrant dream. This is your opportunity to capture incredible photos or simply immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscape. We’ll spend around 30 minutes to an hour at the summit, depending on the pace of the hike and prevailing weather conditions. If you wish to extend your stay, simply inform your guide.

Following this unforgettable experience, we’ll embark on an additional hour’s journey back to the starting point of the hike. There, we’ll board our transport and head to a restaurant in Cusipata for a delectable buffet lunch. Afterward, we’ll once again board our private transport for the return journey to the city of Cusco.
