Challenging & Rewarding Two-Day Rainbow Mountain Trek

Trek through local villages and stunning views towards Llamachimpana. On day two, you wake up early to trek to the Rainbow Mountain and enjoy this natural wonder before descending for your return transfer to Cuzco, arriving in the evening.

Please note: This hike is demanding and at high altitude. It is recommended that travelers are in good physical condition.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cuzco – Llamachimpana, Peru Cuzco – Urcos – Quesiuno – Llamachimpana (B/L/D)

Commencing our journey, we’ll pick you up early from your Cuzco accommodation (between 7:00 – 7:30 hrs) and embark on a scenic drive through the South Valley. Lunch will be enjoyed in Pitumarca before continuing to the trailhead at Quesoyuni (4,326 m / 14,189 ft). The trek will lead us through villages, offering interactions with local residents, and a chance to spot charming chinchillas and vicunas—the only non-domesticated members of the llama family in Peru. After a 3-4 hour hike, we’ll reach our camp near the village of Llamachimpana, where a tranquil night’s rest under the stars awaits.

After breakfast, we’ll commence the day with an early ascent to the captivating Rainbow Mountain, marveling at the magical landscapes and valleys. Following this breathtaking experience, we’ll proceed to the Red Valley viewpoint, situated about 30 minutes from Rainbow Mountain. Subsequently, a three-hour descent, passing by two picturesque lagoons (Cochayoc and Yanacocha), will lead us back to Llamachimpana for lunch. Post lunch, we’ll journey back to Cuzco, concluding your adventure.
